Grandparents scammed out of $2,100 by phony grandson

MADISON -- Police are warning people to be careful when asked for money over the phone -- even if the person who appears to be asking for help says he's your grandson.

A couple was the target of a phone scam on Wednesday when a man purporting to be their grandson called with a sad story, according to Madison Police Chief Barry Moores, who did not know the names of the couple.

The scammer, who knew the real name of the grandson, said he had accidentally bumped into someone on the street and caused him to fall down. He said he was in court and was being asked to pay money. He asked them to not tell his parents.

That's when a different man got on the phone with the grandparents and pretended to be a lawyer, saying the grandson needed $2,100.

The grandparents agreed to send the money by Western Union, only to learn afterward they'd been duped.

Alfred Hitchcock - Rope [Full Movie]

Two young men strangle their "inferior" classmate, hide his body in their apartment, and invite his friends and family to a dinner party as a means to challenge the "perfection" of their crime. It seems every Hitchcock movie is a "masterpiece" and this is yet another example.

This movie is perfect viewing for any Hitchcock fan... of course. But, it's also great for Jimmy Stewart fans and film students and writers who want to study how to peel off the layers of great storytelling and character definition. And it all takes place in one location. Now, that's some great storytelling.

Woman in her 70's Stops 6 ARMED ROBBERS!

‘Embarrassingly simple’ hack could leave up to 100 million credit cards exposed

As many as 100 million credit cards in active use today contain a technology that can be tricked into exposing the users’ account to fraudulent transactions, according to a hacker who demonstrated the exploit on stage this past weekend at a conference in Washington, D.C.

Speaking at the Shmoocon hacker conference on Saturday, security researcher Kristin Paget demonstrated a hack that she called “embarassingly simple” in which she “stole” someone’s credit card data, embedded it onto a blank magnetic card, then paid $15 into her own bank account, all without ever even touching or viewing her willing victim’s card.

According to Forbes reporter Andy Greenberg, she used a cheaply available radio frequency identification (RFID) reader to procure the card number, expiration date and CCV code. Inputting that information on a small card magnetizing tool that sells for approximately $300, the card was replicated in an instant then swiped through a cheap iPhone attachment that allows users to accept credit card payments. With that, she charged the card $15, then paid her volunteer $20 in cash for the trouble.

Devices that ping any nearby RFID chips can be purchased for as little as $2 in some cases, and because credit cards have localized security instead of an encrypted response that must be validated through the company’s servers, they can be tricked into giving up their crucial details upon request.
